Fade haircuts in St. Catharines
A fade is a haircut where the hair blends from short at the neckline and sides up into longer hair on top, with no hard line where the lengths meet. At Sam's Scissors, fades start from $29, are blended by hand and finished with a clean razor line-up. Walk in or book ahead, open six days a week.
Types of fade
Pick your fade, or let your barber recommend one
Every fade describes how high up the head the blend starts and how short it ends at the bottom. Here is what each one means, or read our full guide to the types of fades.
Also called a bald fade. The hair blends all the way down to bare skin at the bottom for the sharpest, cleanest finish. Best when you want maximum contrast.
A softer, more conservative blend kept tight around the ears and neckline without going to skin. A great everyday look that grows out gracefully.
The blend starts low, just above the ear, for a subtle finish that keeps more length on the sides. Understated and office-friendly.
The blend begins around the temple, the balanced middle ground between low and high. The most-requested fade for a reason.
The blend starts high on the head for bold contrast and a striking, modern shape. Pairs well with more length or texture on top.
Tell Sam, Almo or Angel your hair type, face shape and how you style it, and they will recommend the fade that suits you. That conversation is part of every cut.
Why Sam's
Hand-blended fades, finished with a razor
Every fade here is blended by hand, not rushed through one guard setting, and finished with a clean straight-razor line-up around the edges. Sam has been honing the craft for over 13 years, and his brother Almo and barber Angel share the same standard: take the time to get the head shape, the gradient and the line exactly right.

Fade questions
How much is a fade?
A skin or taper fade at Sam's Scissors starts at $29, and a kids' fade starts at $19. The final price depends on the length and the detail involved, so your barber will confirm it before they start. Adding a beard trim is from $24.
What's the difference between a skin fade and a taper fade?
A skin fade (or bald fade) blends all the way down to bare skin at the bottom for the sharpest, highest-contrast finish. A taper fade is softer: it tapers the hair short around the ears and neckline but stops before skin, so it's more subtle and grows out more gracefully. Tell your barber which look you're after, or ask them to recommend one.
Do you do walk-ins for a fade?
Yes, walk-ins are welcome at 514 Welland Ave. Booking ahead online guarantees your time with the barber you want, which we'd recommend on weekends when the chairs fill up fastest.
How long does a fade last?
Most fades look their sharpest for about two to three weeks, then start to grow out. A skin fade shows growth a little sooner than a softer taper. Many of our regulars come in every two to four weeks to keep it crisp.
